On March 30, 2013, we hosted BUNNY PARTY! 2013 along with our neighbors on Western Ave: The Paper Feather, Masquerade Wines and Dwyer Gallery. The Seattle Animal Shelter brought over four bunnies and Lauren (co-owner of Ugly Baby and La Ru) brought over her two bun buns. Six bunnies total were available for petting in the upstairs of our shop. We asked potential petters to give a donation to the Seattle Animal Shelter -- and wowza - people were certainly generous. All told, we raised over $450 to help homeless bun buns who find their way to the shelter after the Easter holiday. We got a note from the Seattle Animal Shelter that explains just how timely our gift was:
We would like to thank everyone who donated to the Seattle Animal Shelter Saturday at the fantastic and fun Bunny Party! We also want to let you know that your donations will go to help rabbits immediately.
On Easter two rabbits came into the Shelter. One rabbit was a stray, found alone and scared in a park. It has matted fur and fleas and will require vet care to fix those problems. This rabbit is very happy to have a safe, warm and dry place to stay, along with some yummy bunny salads and a snuggly stuffed friend, until he finds his forever home and a real bunny friend to keep him company.
A second rabbit was surrendered when her owners could not longer care for her. Sadly, she came in a wire bottomed cage (a big bunny no-no) with only peanuts to eat. Her toe nails were extremely long and had to be trimmed right away and she may have broken toes because of the cage bottom. She might need to see a vet because of the inapproopriate diet she was fed and her feet. Your donations will help pay for that vet visit! Thank you!
She is now in a rabbit appropriate enclosure, and is recieving a proper bunny diet. This rabbit is super sweet and incredibly cute and is looking forward to finding a bunny buddy!
Your donations do make a difference and all of the rabbits at SAS are so "hoppy" you donated. Thank you!"
Pretty awesome. If you weren't able to attend, don't worry - we'll be doing this annually (at least).
